Is the Rebound Sustainable?

Is this the start of the great heave-ho? Will it just hold and not go down? I think some fund managers have taken positions in this morning session as the CI is moved to 1371.88 up 12.61 points.

The second liners and penny stocks have responded quite vigorously with some modest gains. The CI needs to sutain itself with heavy volume support in the afternoon session to induce more players to come in. The gainers this morning was SAAG which climbed 80 sen; EONCap upped 55 sen, while both KWANTAS and LCL increased 45 sen each. Leading the losers were KNM, TopGlove and Sunrise.

The portfolio-how did the component stocks do?

Metronic which migrated to the Main Board came out strong to clinch 3 sen to 26.5 on the back of a volume of 18.4 million shares. Resorts moved up 8 sen to RM3.72 on heavy trading of 11.5 million shares. KPS glided up a sen to RM1.71 while BJ Toto added 5 sen to RM5.15. Meanwhile RCE fell a sen to RM1.07 but JAKS firmed up 1 sen to 80.5 sen. AMDB and Genting sat quietly on their overnight prices of 40.5 sen and RM8.45 respectively.

I actually thought that this downturn could be a longer one but Bursa snapped out of the losing streak in barely 2 days. It shows the strong undercurrent buying support because of good economic factors and corporate developments.

At 5pm, when the market closes, the CI was up 6.8 points to 1366.02. Volume was 1.45 million shares worth RM2.26 billion. There were 572 gainers compared to 350 losers. Gainers were ASSAG,up RM1.15, EONCap up 65 sen and KWANTAS up 60 sen. Losers include KNM, Taann,Nanyang and WTK.

Looking at portfolio stocks, Resorts closed up 20 sen to RM3.84 with the highest volume of the day of 37.5 million shares. However, Genting was unchanged at RM8.45. Those which put on a sen included WMC and KPS. JAKS added half a sen to 80 sen while BJ Toto added 5 sen to RM5.15. Metronics added 2 sen to 25.5 sen. AMDB lost 0.5 sen to 40 sen while RCE dropped 3 sen to RM 1.05.

I think the market did all right. Hope there will be some kind of follow-through tomorrow.
